To Sr. From Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} c. to Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} 87960. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}8/MJ.11.4.32. 58-GN. CAR. As I mentioned to you when you were at Derby, we found that the steering on 58-GN. car when we tried it was abnormally bad. On the tests we made with this car after we fitted the shimmy shackle we were still not happy with the steering. It was definitely improved because we carried out tests on the road by locking the shimmy shackle, compared with when it is working normally. We have realised that we still require additional friction on the column. We have tried this in an experimental form and find it quite successful. As soon as we have anything available to fit to 58-GN. we should like to have another go at that car, because we believe it represents a bad steering, but it is quite possible a number of customers' cars are no better.
