We have tried a set of tappet guides made in bronze. There is no difference in the metallic ring when the engine is running than with the cast iron guides. The smooth finish that is obtained with bronze is very helpful and a quieter tappet is obtained, but does not do away with the squeak without, as previously reported, the bottom of the tappet is finished off smoothly. We do not advocate using bronze, until such times that we find the cast iron guides cannot be produced to the requirements needed for quietness. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/GWH.{George W.
