C O P Y. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/FJH.{Fred J. Hardy - Chief Dev. Engineer} from Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}2/ML.8.8.40. For outstanding problems which have emphasized themselves since we began to get a large mileage on rationalised cars, all fall into your particular sections. These are:- 1. Propellor shaft mounting vibration. 2. Clutch thrust race failures. 3. Rattles in the gear-box. 4. Steering-shocks, with-worn-tyres. We have got to make an effort to get at least one car running about on which these troubles have been dealt with to the best of our ability. It may mean pieces being manufactured outside. In the case of proprietary articles, such as the clutch and propellor shafts, we shall have to try and persuade the manufacturers to make the necessary modifications. Has any design modification been made to improve the location of the engines? You will remember we had some trouble with the selector mechanism gettint out of phase on 1 - R - 1.
