-4- (p.28) "Note that if alcohol is used in the system as an contd. anti-freeze, boiling may occur before the temperature at which the red lamp operates. "Therefore, under these conditions a more careful attention to the thermometer is necessary. "However, the shutters will keep the water temperature, under normal conditions of use, below that at which boiling of alcohol will occur." (p.29) Water Level. Delete reference to accidental running with closed shutters. Suggest add: "If glycerine or ethylene glycol is used as an anti-freeze the water level should be considerably lower, and should only just cover the upper tubes of the radiator core." (Otherwise we find there is considerable loss through aeration and expansion of the liquid). Descending Hills. We have said for some years that "it is never" necessary to change to a lower gear in descending a hill. It has cost us nothing and the practice is dying out rapidly everywhere. Compare pages 115-118 of Am.book. (p.30) Sideslip. "Greasy" surfaces. Suggest "slippery" surfaces. Ice on the road is our chief trouble. (p.31) "The coil being of the non-trembler type". Delete. No trembler coils any more. Frost. Notes not complete enough for practical use. Suggest separate chapter on cold weather running, like chapter XIII of Am.book. Collision. See note P.116 Am.book. Note re inspection after "even slight" collisions does not appear appropriate to the use of bumpers. That is, if the bumpers and their mountings are good such inspection should not be necessary, and in cities like New York is scarcely practicable. Chap.II. Lubricants Recommended. See Am. Instruction Book pages 33-36. Also, see Chapter III of Am. book as a matter of suggestion for rearrangement. This gives - First, on one sheet (with picture) a clear statement of all the regular lubrication jobs.(what to do.) (A serious omission however is draining crankcase every 1000 miles.) cont'd.{John DeLooze - Company Secretary} | ||
