x7530 TO BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} FROM DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}/EV.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork} SECRET. DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}/EV{Ivan Evernden - coachwork}1/21.5.30. Copy to Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} SG.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} CY SRN. RE INSTRUMENT BOARD FOR 25EX. X.7772. X.7530. We send herewith N.Sch.3103, 5 & 6. shewing various layouts for the instrument board for the second expl. L.H.S.S. None of them are suitable for final use on L.H. cars. N.Sch.3103. This shews an arrangement using all American gauges, and will not now be used as the instruments will not be available. Our own instruments, where used have been temporarily modified to suit the system of mounting. We are still without information concerning the position of the gear lever knob so we are unable to shew its position relative to the board. The starter switch is the latest one sent from W.W. and since the designs have been in Derby for some while now it should be available. The original one which we believe is still in production is too large for any form of grouping. N.Sch.3105. This shews a board of all English instruments most of which are those now standard. The petrol gauge is like the American one in shape, but we understand such a gauge can be obtained from Messrs Hobsons. In this case also there are certain slight modifications to some instruments to produce uniformity. N.Sch.3106. This scheme shews an alternative arrangement of instruments all of which are English except the clock, which may be a Seth-Thomas Electric or any other clock of a suitable size. We are inclined to prefer N.Sch.3105 to this for the following reasons. (a) All the gauges and switches which we supply and these with the chassis can be in a central plate, and America or any other country can supply any suitable Speedometer and clock. (b) The main switch is in the best position for accessability (c) It is not so deep. N.Sch.3106. which is really OY's suggestion has the advantage in this particular case that it is not dependant upon the procuring of any instrument except a clock, which should be easy. If you can tell EV.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork} soon which of these schemes you will use on 25EX. he will arrange for the body to be supplied with the instrument board cut and panelled which will save some work. The centre panel can be of wood as drawn, or it can be of aluminium let in, and finished black or any other of the many possible finishes.
