COPY. JD.{J. Draper - Frames}80. 14.5.30. PARK ROYAL AMMETERS AND PATCH INSTRUMENT BOARD ASSEMBLY. Further to Roy{Sir Henry Royce}/JT15/HP.7.5.30. I have made enquiries re the filing of these instruments and T.T. informs me the necessary filing was done with the dust covers on to prevent the entering of any foreign matter. This filing is necessary on the patch he used but not on the Std. type. It appears that instruments are taken out of the patches whilst on experimental cars at various times and sometimes left out for a day or two, this will of course allow dust to get into the instruments. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} & RHC.{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer} should have this pointed out to them and arrange that, as far as possible, another instrument be fitted (if only temporarily) immediately any are taken out of the patch. As it is now, this occurrence is marring all our experimental work on ammeters and is not giving us a fair comparison between the various makes on which we are experimenting. The method of assembly of the patch on production has not altered and is still done on the same dusty bench in Mr.Ellis's bay. Mr. Dakin informs me he is not having so much trouble with the ammeters at the present moment, and has put forward a suggestion to do away with the holes in the glass for the two lights, but nothing has been done in the matter yet. This week he has started using the A.T. speedometer with the new type adjustment knob thus making the patch more dust proof. To improve them further in this respect he is waiting for rubber rings to put between the instrument faces and the casting. EFC/GJ. | ||
