Dear Sir,

In reply to yours of CJG/E1618 of 1st June, 1918, might I ask whether you would be willing to give my proposal for modification of the sparking plug of aero engines, a trial?

My suggestion was to replace the mercury cup in sparking plug by one containing a plug of fusible alloy. I have absolute confidence that the new arrangement would not be inferior to the present one & I believe would turn out much more efficient; it would, at any rate, be simpler to construct & cheaper.

Trusting to hear from you soon.

I am,
Yours faithfully,
J.{Mr Johnson W.M.} W. Hall

The Manager,
Messrs. Rolls-Royce, Ltd..
