BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} from E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} c. to BJ. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} X5180 E2/M20.12.28. INDIA 4 - WATER CONNECTIONS. X.5180* X.5150 X.5050 When the above chassis was down at WW. R.{Sir Henry Royce} noticed that the cast elbow pipe connecting the water pump to the cyl. jacket had a kind of bridge between the bosses on the two bolter flange joining to the cyl. Moreover, he thought these bosses were unduly deep. We shew on the attached drg. LeC.2626, the shortest bosses which we think can be got in under the circumstances, and we have indicated that these bosses should be round in section where they do not otherwise join to the form of the pipe. No doubt this latter feature makes the piece more difficult to produce, either as a sand casting, or a casting in metal dies, but the piece in question occupies such a prominent place on the engine that its appearance is a matter øfor some consideration. We do not think we can expand the centre distances of the studs on this flange, which would be another way out, because of the proximity of the stud bosses in the cyl. to the cyl. stud maxs tubes.
