We notice that the springs G 82227 on the 2nd. speed slider shown by GL.{G. Linnett} 742 are not in agreement with N Sch. 4140 as regards their length when choc-a-bloc which we make by measuring the spring .18" whereas we asked for .35". We regard this as important because if the ball cage should stick in the rearmost position allowed by the choc-a-bloc length of the spring the slider would over-run the balls in 1st. speed. It appears to us that our requirements can be met by the use of wire .044 in.diameter with 6.25 effective turns and 8.25 total turns. The load may be increased up to .75 lbs. if this is of assistance in overcoming limitations due to available wire diameters. We think that production boxes should have revised springs. The cost of scrapped springs, if any, is insignificant. HDY.{William Hardy} | ||
