For the attention of G.H.Grylls, Esq.

Dear Sirs,

You will remember some time ago the writer promised to investigate the cause of failure you reported on a D.W.S. experimental portable hydraulic jack you were testing in connection with the Bentley chassis.

Unfortunately this jack was sent direct to the works and repaired in the ordinary way, the writer therefore being unable personally to examine the trouble.

However, as far as we can gather from the works, the top piston gland of the ram had moved in its retaining groove. This may have been caused through a plating defect; the plating getting on to the inside of the tube and causing undue friction on the gland. The trouble may also have been caused if the jack had been dismantled and reassembled incorrectly at your works, but we have no doubt you would know if this had been done.

The jack in question has now been repaired and returned to you fitted with an operating handle which will give the right angle operation that you desire, and we trust you will find this satisfactory.

Assuring you of our close co-operation at all times,

We are,

Yours faithfully,
For DONALD SESSIONS & COMPANY, LIMITED.
