Copy Visit to coachbuilders with Mr Oldham 10th and 11th inst. re door rattles etc. ------------------ The chief questions and answers are shewn below. [Table] | | only one side door each side in double limousine | only 4 points for body to rest upon ? | only face fit for doors? | Matchboxing ? | oval doors ? | dovetails ? | |---|---|---|---|---|---|---| | Barkers | Yes, this will minimise door rattles. | No, could possibly manage with 6 points if weight of runners etc is increased by the addition of steel plates etc. | No, could not keep water-tight. | Doorways do not hinge at corners so much as the pillars and roof bend. Fit of dovetail dowel-plates important. | No, but small radius can be arranged. | Yes but must be very good. one not two. | | Thrupp & Maberley. | Yes | Think it might be done if 4 points are at 4 corners of body, not under door pillars. The twist of frame will then twist body & cause noise. Prefer 6 points & increased weight of body | No. | Corners do not go much door pillars bend. Roof also bends. Have invented spring dovetail dowel-plates which have cured door rattles. | No. | Must be very good. New spring dovetails are an improvement. | | ||
