Rolls-Royce Ltd., Experimental Department, Nightingale Road, DERBY. Dear Sirs, For the attention of Mr. L. H. {Arthur M. Hanbury - Head Complaints} Swindall. We wish to acknowledge, with thanks, receipt of your letter of the 16th December, and note that you would like to have a set of twelve Silchrome XCR valves to your drawing No.EB.2970. Naturally we are somewhat hesitant in saying that these valves will be satisfactory on leaded fuels without stelliting, but we think they are worth trying, and it may be that Stellite can be applied to them more easily than is the case with the Silchrome No.1 valves with which you are at present having some trouble in this respect. We are writing to the States to-day to put these valves in hand for you. Yours faithfully, F.R. BANKS. P.S. We note that the blue print shows the valve in stellited form, but we have asked our people in the States to have the valves made up without Stellite on the seat and to the finished dimensions shown on the print. We have told them, however, to apply a hard Stellite tip to the stem. BB | ||
