REAR SEATS.
N.Sch 2232 has been made largely to illustrate the difficulties in the way of lowering the rear seats. The height to the centre of the compressed cushion from the floor on the present car is 9.000ins. (See Drwg.No.S7043.) We suggest that this can be made two inches less by the use of air cushions. We also feel that the compressed squab could be moved back one inch without altering the seat back. This would allow the passenger more room to sit lower and more reclined. The height of the rear seat influences the height of the hood.

HOOD.
We have dropped the wheel and front seat 4.000ins. If we drop the hood the same amount we shall have the same clearance between the compressed squab and the hood as now. This is approx. 35 ins. On the drawings we send this makes the head come within 1.000ins. of the fabric. The man shewn has long body and is sitting bolt upright with his spine in a standing posture. When sitting normally the posture is more reclined and the spine is curved.
This makes the distance from the top of the frame to the cant rail of the hood 36 1/2 ins.
Although the horizontal vision shewn on N.Sch. 2317 looks none too good relative to the driver it is the same as now. We can therefore still have a screen with a metal top and fixing for the hood and not be afraid of spoiling the vision.
We do not like the idea of having two detachable screens.

Headlamps.
We do not wish you to make the Zeiss headlamps to dip, but would like the mounted in the position shewn on N.Sch.2307. using a bracket as indicated on our N.Sch.2252.

We suggest that it might be wise to set out the wing 1/4 scale such as we did those previously suggested.(see NSch 2252 & 3).
We think that, as there is a lot of work to be done to the chassis after it leaves your works, it would be well to do no more painting than is necessary to preserve the structure, and to arrange to let you have it back when the car is complete to give a coat or two of colour then. This could be stated in the original estimate and instruction.
In a few days we will arrange to let you have the official order and Derby will send down and do such modifications as are necessary for you to do the work. They are:-
FIT special Petrol tank with large filler. (if not on)
FIT special cover over pendulum lever.
The steering can be changed when the car is at Derby.

We hope that this information will enable you to carry on, but the writer will be pleased to give you any further assistance he can.
Would you kindly return the tracings N.Sch.2307. 2322 & 2243.
Yours faithfully,

for ROLLS-ROYCE LTD.
