Hallam - Head Repairs}/ERC re the above and for the enclosed print. We have gone into the design again and have modified N.Sch.2307 and produced N.Sch.2317.and 2322,enclosed herewith. WINGS. We do not like the wings which you have shewn because they offer too much head resistance. Referring to Print No.1092,the tail of the front wing "A"whilst being very effective in keeping the mud off the rear passengers must be reduced to a minimum or the wing will offer a big face area,- see front view. We do not want marked points to the wings, nor need that of the front wing extend far forward. The highest point on the wing is the outside edge, and the wing is like a man's cupped hand or an oyster shell. The rise "H" of the front wing is toogreat towards the tail. The tail of the rear wing is too long and turns down too far again offerring a head resistance. On our scheme we shew the action of mud flying from the wheels. It will be seen that the tail of the front wing is important and cannot be cut away more than we suggest, but that the tail of the rear wing matters much less. The front of the rear wing can be cut away as shewn as there the mud has no forward velocity with reference to the car due to the air stream. We have set out the wheel clearances and suggest that the wings be tried on this car as drawn. BODY TAIL. We think that the tail which you have shewn is too blunt. We have altered our scheme raising the wheel above the runners and lengthening the tail to your dimension. We have however kept the continuous curve of the body top constant, and not increased the curvature towards the tail. True streamline is a blunt nose and a pointed tail. We have also shewn this section on N.Sch.2322. | ||
