be the new rear axle sent out. We are not aware whether this axle was run or not on the road before being sent out, but the overrun period as reported in our daily report is there, and it is an uneven note on the overrun. The speed is approx. 48 M.P.H. I have been out on the car with the rear boards up to see if I could feel any vibration on the box. There are times when you can feel a vibration, but one would not say it was definite. Another serious aspect of this axle is the shake in the pinion housing. You may dispute the fact, but the axle sent out has got a definite slackness in the housing when the axle was hot. This slackness is not there when the axle is cold. We have proved this during the last two runs. There is no slack with the axle cold, but when hot there is a distinct lateral movement. So far this has not increased, and the amount of back lash is very small. We are watching the job very closely and doing our utmost to cause it to fail.
