Re: 32 EX - Phantom lll.

Clutch Pedal Servo.
- - - - - - - - - -

There is a horizontal stay between the cantilever pedal shaft and the engine, with ends that are free to turn to allow for engine movement. Some clearance must exist in the ends and more developes. This is not serious with the standard pedal scheme as the stay is always in tension.

With the pedal servo mounted on the opposite side of the pedal to the clutch operating link, the stay is in thrust until the trunion comes against the clutch fingers after which it is in tension. This produces a knock, and makes the pedal feel as if it were fouling at this point, and detracts from the smoothness of its action. The layout of the parts requires to be modified so that the stay is always acting in the same direction.

The servo is otherwise satisfactory in all respects and a great improvement on the clutch operation. It enables the pedal to be easily pressed right to the boards, which facilitates gear changing, and owing to the lightness of operation, the pedal can be released more smoothly.

A sketch of the trouble is attached.
