Huckerby}27.6.38. we do not think Inspecting Engineers have any intention at all of being partial when receiving enquiries from customers about, say engine oil. It must be remembered that all new chassis are turned out from W. with their engines filled with either Prices or X.L. which in itself supports lack of impartiality. Our most common enquiry is "What oil was supplied in my engine because I would like to go on using the same?" To this the Inspecting Engineer can only reply "Prices" or "X.L." If there is no objection to his saying - "I don't know but you can fill up with any one of the recommended oils mixing them indiscriminately at any time" - we think this should be/stated in the Instruction Book where the various oils are recommended, as the majority of owners are averse to mixing. If you will let me know whether oils can be mixed I can easily instruct Inspecting Engineers to say so and that, in consequence, wherever a customer may stop and whatever he may already have in his engine, he can top-up with another of the oils.
