For the attention of Mr. Martin-Hurst.

Dear Sirs,

We have received your letter of the 16th inst., together with enclosed blueprints, for which we thank you.

We should like to make the following observations and queries.

(1) You state that the bad feature in our design is lack of adjustment. We have already stated that we would change our design to give adjustment of opening temperature of thermostat; also that we do not specify a definite temperature range but say that it must not exceed 7°C. There seems to be no lack of flexibility here.

(2) You state that the thermostats to EB.667 are no simpler to manufacture than those to E.86612. In that case we fail to understand how you managed to supply us in the past with 15 thermostats to EB.667 which give our required characteristics, without any comment from yourselves on difficulty in manufacture. It may interest you to know that a competitive firm are of the opinion that they can produce the thermostat we require as a production proposition.

(3) You state that the average thermostat supplied by you to other motor manufacturers has a range of 11°C. We should like your explanation of how you reconcile this with your stated maximum water temperature variation of one or two degrees, since it appears to us that the variation must be equal to the 11°C. range.
