To HPS.{Horace Percy Smith - Experimental Factory Mgr} from Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Std. 340 8 Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Std.9/AP.21.4.37 PH.RADIATOR STEAM VALVE. We understand that on Production, the radiator steam valve is set by giving the diaphragm approximately .010" initial compression when built up, and we think that (a) this is not enough initial compression (b) this is not a sufficiently reliable method of setting this steam valve. We think that the valve should be set by testing under pressure to give a blow-off pressure of 2 - 3 lbs/sq.in. (exactly as you set the valve for the Nairobi car) Will you please obtain a standard steam valve unit from Production with half a dozen spare diaphragms and fit same up on the radiator which we will hand you - then determine by means of a pressure test and adjusting washers beneath the internal stand pipe the amount of initial compression of each diaphragm for blow-off pressures of 2 - 3 lbs./sq.in. We should like these figures as soon as possible so that we can arrange for this method of setting on Production. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Std. | ||
