RE "KITE" ENGINE - CRANKCASE ARMS.

We send you herewith drawing Lec. 1326 showing the construction of the rear crankcase arms, and the brackets carrying them from the side channels of the frame.

The general idea of the scheme is to arrange the arms and arm tubes so that they form a cross member which supports the frame by resisting the rolling over of the side channels. Should this cross member be called upon to carry the torsional resistance due to one dumb iron being lifted higher than the other, it is thought that the tubular extensions will slip round in the split clamps on the feet. The grooves for the biting-in bolts therefore should not be made a close fit except in a direction along the axis of the tube, as their only proper function is to locate the engine sideways.

This drawing also, gives details of the flywheel casing, and the end faces for the rear camshaft bearing, rear oil pipe housing, and oil retaining cover around the crankshaft. The flywheel diameter has been slightly increased, as also the gear on the flywheel for starting purposes.
