| x4267 To C.J. From R. {Sir Henry Royce} R4/G17.11.30. X.4219. RE SMALL R.R. CHASSIS. X.4247. Three speed gear box carried on rear of engine. (Gear box will be similar to Goshawk(Aero Engine)(Codename for 20HP Car / Aero Engine after Kestrel(Aero Engine)), but modified for three speeds). X.4252. Central change gear and brake levers. X.4256/7. The back axle to be generally of the "Goshawk(Aero Engine)(Codename for 20HP Car / Aero Engine after Kestrel(Aero Engine))" type but lighter and simpler. It will have - X.4255. (a) Central gearbox of cast aluminium split longitudinal, as on "Goshawk(Aero Engine)(Codename for 20HP Car / Aero Engine after Kestrel(Aero Engine))". (b) Taper steel axle tubes of rather small diameter. (c) The rod underneath. (d) Double rear brakes. (e) Fabric disc couplings at each end of propeller shaft drive from change speed gear box. (f) Parallel control by semi-elliptic rear springs the springs to be very long for the purpose of obtaining stiff spring leaves which will carry the brake torque and propulsive torque of the axle. x4267 | ||
