In future we wish all new Gearboxes to be run in on a 50:50 mixture of Whitmore's and engine oil. This should be changed to engine oil after each gear has been given considerable use. This includes particularly 1st and reverse gears. Although this procedure is always carried out for dynamometer tests, new gearboxes that go straight on the road do not receive this treatment, with almost inevitable failure of the 1st gear teeth in the case of 40/50 boxes.
