We attach copy of letter from Sr. asking for water excluders on Bentley rear drums. In view of the impending alteration to these, we think it would be as well to get out a scheme before dies are sunk. We have always felt that an ordinary dust cover shielded by a tall rib, and no holes in the drum end plate, combined with a long-life Ferodo such as R.6803 which does not produce much dust should be sufficient on the rear; but now that cars are washed on elevated platforms with high pressure hoses this may no longer be so, and we are going to try in two or three weeks time a modified excluder which we hope will be proof against hose jets from any angle. With aluminium drums we should be able to decrease inner and outer clearances on our present excluder by .010" at least without increasing manufacturing difficulties owing to the considerable increase of rigidity and this is a further advantage. We presume you will prefer to wait for a report from us before making drawings. As regards the alteration of leverage to the front brakes shown on N. Sch. 4798 we would like this restored elsewhere. We think the best brake drum liner to use for a start are "Millenite" with an | ||
