X. 4341 - C.A.V. TYPE "EB" MOTOR.

This motor was obtained recently to your instructions in order that we might give it a test and judge its suitability for the 40/50 chassis. My assistant's report as a result of preliminary investigation of details is as follows :-

"Generally, this machine has a neat appearance.
"The field coils are finished bright but are not
"a good fit round the pole shoes; the pole shoes them-
"selves being solid, rather rough and only secured by
"one screw to the carcase.

"No insulation is provided beyond what is used on
"the coils, between the field coils and the carcase.
"The connections to the main terminals are well carried
"out, the ends being soldered into lugs, which are
"clamped down by heavy copper-plated brass bolts, which
"pass through the side of the commutator end shield.
"These terminals, however, are too close together.

"On the other hand, the connections to the brushes
"are poor. Here the field coil ends are simply bent
"round to form an eye, and tapped; the lugs, to which the
"pigtail ends are soldered, being secured to them by brass
"screws. The brush pigtails are not insulated.

"Brushes marked C.M.C. are used and are screwed to
"the holders, which are pivoted (radial) and controlled
"by a wire spring. This spring does not appear to evenly
"distribute the tension on the brush.

"The armature is a neat job, and is supported in
"bearings of the oilless type.

The proportions of the armature and carcase as as follows :-
