contd:- -2- wrong with the proportions of those given on the detail drawings for the original air valve: they should be, and are, as near as possible all reduced to .84 of the 40/50 to agree with the carburetter throate and air valve stroke. With regard to the air valve springs Derby appear to have tried 3 on the original carburetter as follows:- .66 lbs. per sq. in. vacuum (same as 40/50) .53 " " " " " .44 " " " " " As we have no information available at WW. concerning the final long stroke air valve I have made a chart of carburetter quantities based on a reduction from the 40/50 in the proportion of 85 to 55. A copy of this, LeC.1552, is attc. herewith, and shews the 40/50 carburetter together with the final Goshawk-11 carburetter to the dimensions to which we think it should be made for 55 HP. Derby will be able to check off from this chart and test any differences in the quantities shewn. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} | ||
