Dear Mr. Hopkins,

When I visited your Plant, I discussed strip bearings with Mr. Palm, and told him that we were running a test, which I found had been completed on my return to the Works.

I attach a copy of a report, together with photographs showing exactly the result of this test.

I also attach a diagram of our big end bearing load. It occurs to me that since the main bearings gave up before the big ends, it is most probable that there was some crankcase distortion.

I understood Mr. Palm to say, however, that if a big end loading exceeded 1800 lbs per square inch, it would be impossible to use Babbit. I should like to have his opinion as to whether we shall have to use lead bronze on the big end loading given on the curve.
