| x261 b. S/W To Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} from JS.{Mr Johnson's Secretary} re Mr.Fedden's Bentley. JS{Mr Johnson's Secretary}1/E3.5.35 The following is extract from letter addressed to Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} by Mr.Fedden - (Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} has not seen this yet) - 'I think I have tried to be quite explicit over the mudguards and brakes. I want the squeak cured, and am prepared to leave the matter in your hands as to how it is cured. I do not propose to pay £35 to £40, and still have the squeak present. I am perfectly reasonable about the squeaking, and should not object to minor noises, or insist upon the entire elimination of all noise, all I want is, that the brakes should not squeak so badly, that the car is a conspicuous object, and I feel sure this is even more in your interests than in mine. 'I think this is a fair and sensible' attitude, both in regard to the brakes, and payment, which any other reasonable individual would expect. I have therefore telegraphed you today as follows:- 'Glad to leave elimination of brake troubles in your 'hands, but do not expect to pay for cure if it is not 'efficacious.' 'With regard to the performance of the car, I certainly do want something better, and should like to have the opportunity of testing out the new head when it is available.'
