1135. File Fans general THE GATES RUBBER COMPANY Sales Division, Inc. Denver, Colorado January 27, 1938 Rolls Royce, Ltd. Derby, England /55297 Write Rufs/SD Gentlemen: At the suggestion of Mr. A.{Mr Adams} W. Pound of the Harrison Radiator Division of General Motors Corporation, we wrote you last December 9 on the subject of fan belts to fit the specifications of blue prints No. FB221, and No. EX.S.194. Since then we have been looking forward to hearing from you, and as we haven't, we are wondering if perhaps we did not give you sufficient information. Or perhaps, in some other way we did not take care of your request the way you wanted us to. When we requested further information from you, such as the sheave groove dimensions and angles, size of the pulleys, and center distances, our only thought was to give you a belt and a drive in which you might have complete and utter confidence. That is why we included the cardboard templates, and the bulletin governing the use of these. As the largest manufacturer of fan belts in the world today, we have learned that quality does not alone apply to workmanship and material used. No, for quality to us is nothing more or less than our customers' complete satisfaction with the performance of our belts, and performance covers everything from the fit of the belt in the sheave groove to its length of service, silence, resistance to oils, and every other factor you might consider. But it is rather foolish to speak to your organization about quality, for far more than any other automotive manufacturer in the world today do you know the value of it. Your entire organization is not only founded upon it, but you have given an even richer meaning to the word itself in automotive circles. Frankly, we would not only enjoy the opportunity to work with you, but we would be very proud of that opportunity as well, and in return | ||
