In reply to your memo. BY/CGH{W Clough}10/K22.7.26., the two sides of the bow on the model submitted were not equal in length. This is the one point that was criticised by R.{Sir Henry Royce} when he examined the model. On the model as received, the spring bow appeared as in sketch with the valve seated.

If you will unrivet the bow you will see where the holes on one end have been enlarged at WW. to match the centres.

Furthermore if you will assemble the model without the washers under the spring bow it will probably be found to function quite satisfactory, as owing to the bow not being called on to close flat, clearance is provided for the washers at each end.

The chief object of reversing the washers is to increase the flexibility of the bottom spring.

Had I thought more about the matter I should have sent the model back for further attention before it was inspected.
