To O.O. from EFC. EFC4/L71118. RE X.3407 - "INVAR" STEEL Will you kindly write to Messrs. Wall of Sheffield, and enquire if they can supply the metal known as "Invar" Steel, the metal having a very low co-efficient of expansion. In particular, we would like to know if this can be obtained in a quarter inch diameter rods, 20ins. long. If Messrs. Wall do not do anything in this direction, perhaps you would be able to write to some other firm which may know something of this metal. The Cambridge Scientific Instrument Co., make standard scales of "Invar" Steel, and would no doubt tell us where this steel is obtained. EFC. R.R. 235A (500) (S.T) (S.I). 408. 26-4-17.)
