-2- Enclosed herewith also is a print of F.CD.596 shewing the chassis floorboards on production, the centre sheet metal floorboard will be supplied by ourselves, but the wooden boards will be provided by the Coachbuilder. It will be noted that the rear end of the central sheet metal board has to be supported on the sheet metal body crossmember, and that this crossmember is to be detachable to permit of the removal of the gearbox. Dead eyes for attaching the floorboards to the body runners and the body crossmember should be provided, and these should take .250" diameter screws 26.T.P.I. We are assuming that this body will be provided with lugs for the support of the steering column, of a box section rail in the scuttle. The position in which these were placed on 1.B.5. was not satisfactory, and we shall send you in a day or two a print shewing the required position of these lugs. Since it will be necessary to fit these lugs prior to panelling the body, we are doing all we can to get their position settled up as soon as possible. The instrument board for this car will be the same as that on 1.B.5. and to drawing DB.{Donald Bastow - Suspensions}1589, with the exception that the tachometer will be omitted. With respect to the screen wiper, we are ordering a Lucas wiper having the centre you require. We notice that you have asked for different centres on this car from 2.B.5. and wonder whether it would not be possible to fix on common centres in future, so that the same screen wiper would be applicable to both types of car. This would not shew so much a saving in purchase price, as a saving in varieties in stock. Yours faithfully, FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LIMITED. Car Project Office. | ||
