R.R. 196 (500 H) (SD. 296. 18.3.17) M.P. 176549. inclusion running in broken strings. Segregation of phosphorus was very pronounced in the " as received " specimens, but was practically eliminated by the reheat-treatment. The mechanical test figures obtained before and after the laboratory heat-treatment are given below:- " As received." After reheat-treatment. Brinell ---------- 277. ---------- 277. Ultimate Stress ---------- 57.44 ---------- 61.96 (Tons per sq.in.) Yield Point ---------- 50.48 ---------- 56.44 (Tons per sq. in.) Elongn. % on 2" ---------- 23.0 ---------- 22.0 R.A. % ---------- 62.2 ---------- 60.2 Izod. (ft.lbs.) ---------- 61.3 ---------- 52.0 As far as we have gone it appears that the defects noted above are not sufficient to account for the breakdown. The mechanical tests indicate a greater ductility than we consider desirable or necessary. Hl. IHe | ||
