( Your ref: Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/TMW1/LG25.4.22.) Analysis: Carbon---------- 0.36 % Manganese------- 0.47 % Nickel---------- 3.30 % Chromium-------- 0.67 % The above falls within the limits of Specfn. No. 2081, with the exception of the Chromium, which is very slightly on the high side. Microscopic examination showed that the material had received a faulty heat-treatment, resulting in a coarsely crystalline structure. This is shown in photograph No. A175. A piece of the material was re-heat-treated and the structure found to be greatly improved, as shown in photograph No. A176. Both longitudinal and cross-sectional specimens indicated silicate slag in rather larger quantity than usual, the | ||
