X1015 6.10.36. E's memo. on Rear Axle Costs. Our suggested tubes are 50/- cheaper than present design, so that E's £5. 5. 0d. is any case becomes £4. 5. 0d. We maintain one end plate of 15/- makes up for the increase of the banjo centre over the present centre. He has also credited himself with yesterday's idea of integral end tubes and spring seats say 10/-. Therefore E's figures should be changed from - Phantom III £6. 15. 0d. to £6. 15. 0d. Exp. suggestion £5. 5. 0d. to £4. 5. 0d. Banjo (welded) £3. 15. 0d. to £4. 10. 0d. * * This would be £5. 0. 0d. but for cheap spring seats. We have cheated ourselves with the difference of one end plate and the banjo rear cover. The present axle centre can be a die casting, but this is not so with the banjo construction.
