EXPERIMENTAL 20/25HP DYNAMO TO D.Sch.529. Now that this dynamo is coming out more satisfactorily on test there are one or two modifications which we are confident would be effective on this machine in the direction that they will improve the cutting in speed without much loss of output, possibly none. The first is a longer iron core section in the armature. From the examination of the existing armature we believe that another half inch extra length of iron can be obtained and we should like By/Rd. to ascertain if this is possible and instruct an armature accordingly. The pole face lengths should be lengthened correspondingly. Secondly a thinner control bush should help considerably and we should like a thinner control bush also instructed for test on this dynamo. These two modifications should results in a still better cutting in speed than we are getting with the existing machine. Another modification which might be used later on with further improvement on the machine in the cutting in point and out-put, would be to decrease slightly the diameter of the armature, increase the section of the core correspondingly, and arrange if possible for a field winding having the same number of turns as at present but of a coarser gauge wire.
