X356 With reference to Ionides clutch, in the way Ionides' drawings were shown, the effect on the clutch pedal appeared to me to be rather extensive, and as our clutch only requires such a very minute amount of correction to make it perfect, my impression is that Mr Ionides' principle might be applied on a smaller and neater scale; in effect, making the stroke of the driving part of the clutch about one quarter of what he has arranged in the specimens already made. Such a smaller amount might be all that is necessary to make the clutch action smoother, without materially robbing the foot pedal of part of its stroke. With reference to the clutch on 2301, this has not been working particularly well, being harsh, but was quite all right on several occasions when sufficient oil was put in it. This would appear as if an increase in the efficiency of the oil retaining, such as we used to have, would be highly desirable for this fabric lined clutch, which appears at present to lose the oil rapidly. I should also be glad to know if any benefit has been found by keeping the clutch quite free from oil and lubricating it with black lead. I am not sure whether I pointed out that the Hispano | ||
