When the accumulator temperature has fallen to within two or three degrees of the required temperature we usually give five minutes charge at the normal charge rate. This is done to mix the electrolyte and ensure that the temperature as recorded is the true average of the cell.

Rubber covered flexible leads connect the accumulator terminals with the brass stems in the walls of the box, and the discharge current is thus carried to the external circuit. Voltmeter connections are similarly made with the usual voltmeter flex, starting from the accumulator terminals and passing through the smaller brass stems in the walls of the box. All connections should be perfectly tight to avoid the danger of a spark igniting gas from the cells.

We obtain our supplies of solid carbon dioxide from Solvent Products Ltd., under their trade name of "CARDICE". It is supplied in 15 lbs or 30 lbs blocks in lagged cartons, at a price of about 3½d per lb.
