Dear Mr.Beaver,

re Service of Derby-built Cars in America.

Mr.Hives has brought to my notice that there does not appear to be any one in your employ at the present time who thoroughly understands the construction of the Phantom II or 20/25 chassis, and it is of course hardly necessary for me to point out the importance of your having some one who does thoroughly understand them so as to be able to deal with the service question in a perfectly sound manner.

In our Export business we have always stipulated that the retailer taking over the sale of our cars for any particular country should maintain a Derby-trained engineer, and whilst it has not always been possible to enforce this, there are very few instances where a satisfactory compromise has not been arrived at by the retailer in question sending one of his own mechanics over to us so that he could be trained at our Works at Derby.

It is unfortunate that both the officials of your Company who came over here to study Phantom II cars have since left your service, and in view of this the best course seems to be for you to send one or more of your men over to us so that they can obtain as much information as possible.
