This theory was further evidenced by a characteristic sparking noise intermittently occurring inside the coil when open-circuited.

We consider that this is a good opportunity for having this coil opened up for the purpose of examining the method of construction (see WB{Mr Brazier/Mr Bell}109 attached to EFC2/T8-11-26) and also to discover the exact cause of the partial failure.
