Examination of the coil away from the rig shewed that no appreciable alteration had occurred in the continuity, resistances and impedances of the windings.
It appeared therefore that the fault occurred only when the coil was running and being subjected to high voltages, and also owing to the fact that the primary current when running was rather high it suggested that a high tension short circuit, i.e. sparking back on the secondary windings was causing the trouble.
