COPY. Hotel de l'Ouest, Laval, France. 21.4.23. BP. from Hy.{Tom Haldenby - Plant Engineer} GOSHAWK-11 CARS. On Apl.18th. S-C-11 ran 368 miles. 19th. 360 miles. 20th. 353 miles 21st. 362 miles. ---- 1443 Previous mileage - - 7624 Total to Apl.21st. ---- 9067 miles. We have been stopped today by the high tension rotor breaking down. We have fitted a spare one. A more serious thing is that we found the steering box broken. We have just taken the box off S-C-11 and fitted it to B-Goshawk-11 so as to continue the run and we will fit the new box on arrival to S-C-11. The latest modification for this rotor is that the outer diameter of the bone has been increased to .850 from .750. The original one on S-C-11 was .750, but a spare of the improved type was supplied with C-Goshawk-11. Is this the type they have fitted as a spare? We are arranging for a few more of the strengthened type to be made up and supplied so as to replace the existing ones. We have already sent off a new box [overtyped text] by aeroplane as requested in wire. We are anxious to receive full particulars of the actual breakage and if possible, the faulty box so that reasons for the breakage can be considered and recommendations for modifications to be made, if considered necessary. Hy.{Tom Haldenby - Plant Engineer} may consider it wise at this stage to stop production of this Unit. I think it is very advisable, in reporting on these failures that full particulars should be given and recommendations made as to modifications or alterations and whether the present production is mntd: | ||
