"RAPSON" JACKS. X1238

The next time we bring a 40/50 H.P. chassis to W.W. we propose bringing with it a Rapson Jack. We have proved that the Rapson Jack has several very desirable features. The Rapson Jack is now devoid of the complications it used to have; it is now a Jack very similar to the "Michelin" - it has however, one or two distinct advantages over the "Michelin".

The Jack is used in connection with hook-on fittings which are bolted on or made part of the axle. There is a fixed connection on the Jack about its centre of gravity on to which the handle can be pushed, the Jack can then be conveniently lifted with the handle under the car and hooked on to the fitting. There is a ratchet on the Jack so that it automatically adjusts itself to the correct height. We know with the 40/50 H.P. car, especially where the axles vary in height considerably, that one frequently has two or three attempts at adjusting the height of the Jack before it is correct for jacking up.

A point against the Rapson Jack is that the hook-on fittings provided for the axle are nasty, heavy-looking steel castings. We believe, however, that they are now improving these fittings. The Open Trials Car in London is equipped with the Rapson Jack. Perhaps PN.{Mr Northey} could say whether it performs satisfactorily.
