wobble, and therefore the car may give inconsistent results.

Just before the holidays we tested two 20 HP. cars one with balloon tyres and one without, and it was thought that the balloon tyres did not give satisfactory riding, but from observations I was desirous of increasing the damping of the front axle. This was done to the extent of making it nearly double the standard. The car then rode better than any 20 HP. car I have ever tested. This however was not a question of steering wobbles, but of pitching fore and aft, (but it is good for high speed steering) and this phenomenon was practically cured by increased friction of the front dampers which are now considerably more than the back dampers. This car has behaved extremely well for the 500 miles I have tested it - tyre pressures low (20/25 lbs.) but no inconveniences in steering.

I will report further after I have seen Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} on Thursday.

R.{Sir Henry Royce}
