X. 5600 BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} from DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} c. to Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}3/M 8. 3. 29. 20 HP. 51 in SERIES OA. SIDE WHEEL CARRIER. As the alternative wheel and luggage carrier on the rear is necessary for these chassis, we have prepared a side wheel carrier with a double arm similar to that used for Phantom, and send herewith N.sch.2859. We do not think it is permissible to use the bolt shewn on D.51697 as R.{Sir Henry Royce} does not now approve of it. We also wish to point out that it will be necessary to extend the plug in the wheel until it is outside the hub shell in the manner shewn on N.sch.2859 and to use a handle at right angles. We should like you to make these two adaptations on D.41697. (See also N.sch.2860) Unfortunately owing to the position of the door pillar with B. steering it is not possible to utilise any of the bolts of the engine foot, and the carrier will be unsymmetrical with reference to that.
