- 3 - Clutch (contd) troublesome. Steering There are some further modifications to improve this and a lower gear may yet be necessary. Experiments are continuing. Brakes In spite of criticisms that the brakes do not appear to be as good as P.II, the Works are satisfied that the brakes are functioning as they should do. Slight modifications have however recently been suggested to still further improve their operation. Fan Further experiments with fans are proceeding. Jacks This matter was discussed at some length, as it was suggested that we should have to accept the first deliveries of chassis with ordinary loose screw jacks to be placed by hand under the axles. S. immediately protested that this was an impossible situation which they could not accept, and that they must have some form of located jack when chassis started to be delivered to customers. It was pointed out that Messrs Sessions had let us down on development work of the engine operated hydraulic system. However, it was made clear that this matter must be pushed on with and that some solution must be found by the time chassis are ready for delivery. As an alternative it was arranged that one of the dummy chassis should be handed over to Smiths in London for them to experiment with in fitting up the set for which they claim so much. Luffing Up Sr is to be asked for further information on this subject. Shock Damper Rattles Silent lock type link bearings are being tried. Valve Gear Clatter Further work is being carried out on this matter. Stronger plunger springs are being tried as one means of over-coming this. Road Wheels - Hub Fixings This matter was discussed in view of the difficulty of operating the present method. It was not considered to be urgent, but that development could be carried on quietly in this. | ||
