TEST OF NITRALLOY CRANKSHAFT 25 HP.
(CHINA ENGINE C.1).

SPECIFICATION OF UNIT. - E.85399 Nitralloy crankshaft.
Low inertia spring drive.
Compression ratio 6.15/1.

Engine run light for three hours with gradually increased load and speed, at the end of which time the engine was quite free and ready to take power curve.

We then took power curve from 500 - 3000 R.P.M. running half an hour, engine at the end of run being very free. Spring drive was then bolted up solid and the engine run under full load on a crankshaft vibration period at 1620 R.P.M. in order to prove whether the Nitro steel would crack under this condition. This period was rather severe and run was continued for two and a half hours; bringing the total running time to six hours. The engine was then taken off the bed for inspection. of the crankshaft.

CONDITION OF CRANKSHAFT.

The condition of the crankshaft was found to be excellent. The main joints, crank pin, bearings surfaces, were practically unmarked and almost perfect.

Both the main bearings and big end bearings were excellent and one could scarcely tell they had been run.
