we are altering the altitude control to that of changing depression in the float chamber, as is adopted in the Zenith, Stromberg, and many earlier carburetters.

We are expecting RG{Mr Rowledge}, here on Tuesday and have every confidence that we shall be able to hand him the designs of the whole equipment. We believe that there is little doubt this arrangement gives the best HP. at the speed of 2250 r.p.m. when we have every confidence that we shall get about 500 HP., with good petrol economy.

It will be noted that the gas starter can go in the position originally intended for it, and need now present no difficulties. We are not sure however whether there are holes arranged in the head for the gas starter plugs.

Regarding the ignition plugs there is one required to be put in at a slight change of angle, and when this is done we anticipate all the plugs will be easily removable with a box spanner. The arrangement also gives satisfaction as regards room for the ignition wiring.

It will be understood that the trouble with the carbs. we have made is owing to the difficulty in getting the engine to open out satisfactorily from slow speed to full speed. This seems to be due to the want of directness and shortness of the emulsion jet. It is also thought that the carbs. in the front are not in an ideal position, being too near the propeller. It is for this latter reason that we have decided to concentrate on the carbs. in the Vee, but here again we are in trouble due to the same fault of the novelly arranged Claudel carb. not opening out well, and also due to several mechanical contd :-
