the machine appears to have been somewhat over-lubricated and oil is on the holders and would soon have reached the brushes.
The positive brush is blackened over the trailing half of its contact face, but the other brushes are fairly well polished.
Blackening seems more liable to occur on dynamos working at high speeds, than at lower speeds with larger outputs, owing, it seems, to the greater amount of sparking &c. at the high speeds.
The commutator is in fair condition but some segments are slightly burnt. It appears to require slight skimming up. The solder is still good.
