To DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} from E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} Copy to CE. " " RN.{Mr Robinson} " " SJD. " " DY{F R Danby} " " EFC. ORIGINAL X.4150 RE BACK AXLE BEVEL GEAR. 40/50 HP. CHASSIS. R Referring to your N. scheme 392, kindly note that Mr. Royce prefers the arrangement of ball thrust shewn in fig. 2, but he would like the ball races made somewhat thicker, particularly the centre one, and he would like a distance piece inserted between the outer washers so that they will be gripped endways by the nut provided, in accordance with our usual manner of dealing with these thrust races. It is assumed further that the ball thrust cages are spigoted on their inner diameters. This alteration should be put on test and introduced when convenient, so as not to delay production.
