From Exp. Dept. Copies for: J.{Mr Johnson W.M.} R.{Sir Henry Royce} Ha. C. Wor{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager}/Hy{Tom Haldenby - Plant Engineer}14/L9214. February 9th. 1914. Further report on Continental Over-Size Tyres. X.927. Various tests have been made to obtain the turning circle of a car with various sizes of tyres and the results are as follows | Tyres. | Turning Circle. To right. | To left. | |------------------------|---------------------------|----------| | 935 X 150 Continental. | 51'4" | 46'8" | | 935 X 135 Prowdinik. | 49'7" | 45'1" | | 895 X 150 Continental. | 48'10" | 45'5" | | 895 X 135 Michelin. | 46'11" | 43'7" | These tests were made without steering stops and the tyres were allowed to rub against the spring and steering tube respectively. The figures would all be increased slightly if stops were fitted. The tests were made without stops to save the time and expense of making a special set of stops for each size of tyre. I find the over-size tyres to be quite resilient and to fulfil the functions of a pneumatic tyre quite effectively. They are not hard and unyielding as Palmer tyres are apt to be. | ||
